Why the pair matters

Move-in

You photograph the empty unit: every wall, floor, appliance, and fixture as you received it. Each photo is stamped and hashed on receipt, and the AI flags visible wear and existing marks.

Move-out

You photograph the same rooms again when you leave. The AI compares the two sets and highlights exactly what changed between your two visits.

What changed? The comparison report shows your move-in photo and move-out photo side by side, with the differences marked — so the conversation about normal wear versus new damage starts from evidence, not recollection.

Renters FAQ

Should I do this even if my landlord does a walkthrough with me?

Yes. A walkthrough form is the landlord's record, on their paper. DateStamp is your own independent record with server timestamps and hashes, taken by you and kept by you.

What about pre-existing damage I notice at move-in?

Photograph it and let the AI flag it, then review each flag before it enters your record. Documenting existing marks at move-in is exactly what prevents them from being attributed to you at move-out.

How close to my move-out date should I take the second set?

Take the move-out photos once the unit is empty and cleaned, as close to your final walkthrough as possible, and upload promptly so the timestamps reflect your actual departure.

Can I share the report with my landlord or a mediator?

Yes. The report is a dated PDF with every photo, timestamp, and hash — you can download it, email it, or print it, and share it with anyone involved in the discussion.

Important disclosures

DateStamp creates a photographic condition record. It is not an inspection, appraisal, or legal opinion, and a report does not guarantee any outcome in a dispute.
The AI flags only what is visible in the photos you provide. It cannot detect what the camera didn't capture — poor lighting, blurry images, or areas you didn't photograph will not be flagged. Your record is only as good as your photos.
AI flags are suggestions based on visible evidence, not definitive findings. You review every flagged item before it becomes part of your record.
Photos are timestamped and hashed on DateStamp's servers at the moment of upload. This documents when we received them, not when they were taken.
